Glynwood Community Primary School

Italian

At Glynwood Primary School we are proud to offer our children a high-quality education in MFL, which develops a love of learning a new language and respect for other cultures. Our current Modern Foreign Language is Italian and is lead by our Italian specialist, Stefano Di Felice. It ensures that our children develop the language learning skills set out by the National Curriculum.

It is our intention to ensure that by the end of Year 6 our children have developed an understanding of both spoken and written Italian, a confidence in speaking in Italian and they have built strong foundations and a love for future language learning.Mr Di Felice plans and delivers our Italian curriculum to Year 3-6, with each class taking part in a 60 minute session per week.  Classroom staff work alongside Mr Di Felice, supporting children where needed whilst developing their own knowledge of Italian. Children are encouraged and supported to develop their speaking and listening skills in interactive ways such as songs, games and role play. As their confidence and skills grow this is then demonstrated through written work. We are also looking at ways to introduce and build the basics of Italian where appropriate for our EYFS and KS1 children. Each year we celebrate ‘Italian Day’ as a whole school-= from Nursery through to Year 6. It is a fantastic day full of food, culture, art and fun!
