YEAR 5

Mrs Barnes and Mr Telford

Summer Term 2018

We hope you had a pleasant Easter break and we look forward to a great Summer term in Year5.

Hopefully, the weather will continue to improve and we will have a great time in Malham, which is the highlight of the term. The children and staff are really looking forward to this new experience. Please send in any remaining consent forms and medical information forms as soon as possible, as well as any outstanding monies.

To complement our trip to Malham, our topic this term will include mapwork and navigation skills and the study of physical landscape features, such as rivers and erosion.

In school, in English, we are continuing to work from our class novel ‘Tom’s Midnight Garden’. This is a classic novel and the children are really enjoying reading it.

In Maths, we will explore shape (translations, reflections etc.) and fractions in more detail.

Our Science topics are Earth, Sun  and Moon this half-term and Forces after half-term.

We have lots of other things going on in school this term and hope to get outside as much as possible.

Finally, we wish our Year 5 Basketball team, who are currently Gateshead champions, every success in their next tournament, Champion of Champions, at Sports Central on Friday May 4th. Everyone is welcome to come and support them.
