Spring Term 2019

Happy New Year everyone. We hope you all had a lovely Christmas break.

The Spring term brings some exciting opportunities with our residential trip to Malham, happening on the 1st April. Information will be coming out soon, inviting parents/carers to a pre-visit meeting.

During this term we will be focusing on:

English – narrative writing, .S.P.A.G. focus and spelling rules. We will also be spending two weeks working on our whole school book ‘The Matchbox Diary’.

Maths  – further practise of place value, mental methods and written methods, along with problem solving, reasoning and algebra. We will also delve deeper into decimals, fractions and percentages and take on some new concepts including geometry and statistics. We will also do weekly and daily assessments of multiplication and division facts – so make the most of Times Tables Rockstars. We recommend 10-20 minutes every day or as much as you can.

Science – We will be learning about properties and changes of materials and will looks at solids, liquids and gasses, as well as the water cycle.

Topic – we will be focusing on our trip to Malham, looking at maps and learning about geographical features and map symbols, and comparing Malham with Gateshead.

M.F.L. – we are excited to be learning ‘Italiano’ this year with Signore De Felice.

P.E. – Newcastle Eagles are providing us with some top level basketball coaching. In other P.E. lessons we will be developing attacking and defensive skills to transfer across basketball and hockey.

Thank you again for your support.
