YEAR 5

Mrs Barnes and Mr Telford

Autumn Term 2017

Welcome back to our 2 new Year 5 classes! We hope everyone has had a relaxing summer break.

This term has begun well and the children are already settled and focused on their work.

Our topic this term is the Victorians and in English, we have started reading a children’s favourite ‘Street Child’ by Bertie Doherty. We will be basing our writing on this novel as well as finding out lots about life on the streets in Victorian times. We hope to visit Cragside House near Rothbury soon to further our studies and find out about Lord Armstrong.

In Maths, we have begun working from a new revised scheme, Abacus, and the children seem to be enjoying the work. Look out for the online Maths homework that will be coming soon.

Our Science topic is Lifecycles of Plants and Animals. We will soon have a walk to Windy Nook Nature Park to look at different aspects of plant life cycles.

Finally the staff are trying to organise a residential visit in May for Year 5 pupils to fit in with our geography curriculum. Look out for news of this soon.

There will also be after-school clubs for children in Year 5 starting soon.

Thank you for your continued support. Please pop in to see Mrs. Barnes, Mr. Telford, Mrs. Armstrong or Mrs. Kelly if you have any queries/concerns.
