YEAR 5

Mrs Barnes

Summer Term 2017

The term is going well.

We had a great few days in Edinburgh last half term. The weather was great and we were able to follow-up on our study of Scotland/Edinburgh while we were there. We went to see the statue Greyfriars Bobby and enjoyed the Castle, Zoo, Dynamic Earth and the Royal Yacht Britannia. We saw lots of kilts and bagpipes! We are looking forward to showing you our presentations about Edinburgh in the near future (date to be arranged).

This term, our topic is Map skills and we will be looking at a variety of maps, learning about O.S. symbols and grid references.

We are spending lots of time outdoors as the weather is so nice, preparing for Athletics tournaments and getting fit! We have a Science week coming up soon (our topic this term is ‘Forces’).

We have really enjoyed reading the novel ‘Holes’ by Louis Sachar in English and have done lots of comprehension work and writing based on it.

In Maths, we have been working on fractions and consolidating some of the Y5 objectives, ready to sit (re-sit) our Bronze, Silver and Gold Maths awards.
