YEAR 4

Mrs Barnes and Miss Stell
YEAR 4

Autumn Term 2018

Welcome to Year 4. We hope you have had a lovely summer break and the children are refreshed and ready to work hard and enjoy the new learning experiences Year 4 has to offer.

Our topic this term is Northumberland and we will be studying maps, castles, islands and coastline and famous local people. We will be visiting the Farne Islands and Bamburgh soon.

In English, we have started to read the Michael Morpurgo novel, The Wreck of the Zanzibar and have planned lots of reading and writing opportunities from the book. The children will continue to access the Accelerated Reader Scheme and we welcome your support in encouraging your children to read daily at home.

In Maths, there will be a focus throughout the year on learning and practising the times tables up to 12 times, this is the first year in which Year 4 children across the country will be tested on their knowledge of times tables.

In Science, we will be studying living things and their habitats.

We have been lucky in securing whole class trumpet tuition from the local authority for both Year 4 classes.

Swimming will continue to be on Mondays this year with Miss Stell’s class returning at 4.15pm, this half term. Please ensure your child brings, swimwear, goggles and a towel. Children should also bring in a labelled PE kit at the beginning of the week and take home for washing on a Friday.

If you have any concerns or queries then please don’t hesitate to speak to a member of the Year 4 team.
