YEAR 2Mr Routledge and Miss Robinson
The final term of Year 2 is here and it certainly is a very busy one! We will be working hard in preparation for our SAT’s assessments, starting the week beginning 13th May. The assessments are completed in small groups in a calm and encouraging environment. The children will have Maths, Reading, Grammar and Spelling assessments over a two-week period.
In class we will move onto a new Science topic, Plants. We will be doing lots of outdoor learning to learn about how plants grow.
For our topic work, we will be learning about some non-European countries and our local area. We will be visiting the Quayside to learn about the bridges, landmarks and famous buildings on the River Tyne.
We’re hoping that the sun will shine throughout the Summer term so that we can do lots of outdoor learning and prepare for sports day later in the term. Mrs and Mr Allom will be treating us to some forest school activities too – we can’t wait!
Thank you for your continued support.
The Year 2 Team
Having looked carefully at trees outside we made our own inside !! We also discovered that to stand up our challenge tree really needed some roots! For our drawings we were inspired by the work of Paul Klee. Look out for our end products around school....
We went out into our grounds to look carefully at the trees - drawing a few imaginary ones too ! Watch out for that wolf !!!!
We had a fantastic day out at Thornley Woods. We discovered newts, fish and beetles when we went pond dipping.even though the trays just looked like they were full of dirty pond water! Phil and Liz our wardens for the day helped us identify flowers, grasses and trees....

These little games were a little bit tricky to make , at first we were all fingers and thumbs! We were excited to take them home just to see how well our grown-ups managed with the three times division facts.
We decorated our own tooth fairy designs and made lists of words to describe them.
Due to the success of our last set of after school science club sessions, Mrs Commons will be running another set of 5. Children will be making bath bombs and soap, as well as cinder toffee and sherbet. Hope you all have fun.
