YEAR 2

Mr Routledge and Miss Robinson
YEAR 2

Autumn term 2018

A warm welcome back after the long summer holidays – we hope you all enjoyed a well-earned break after a very busy time in Year 1.

We start the first term of the 2018-19 academic year with a focus on the core subjects of English and Maths, children will be assessed informally in reading, writing and maths, to establish their starting point for the year. Children will be assigned a set reading day where they are expected to bring their school reading book into school to read with an adult – please continue to read as much as possible at home and write a short comment in their home reading record. Children will receive weekly spellings once they have settled into their new routine, spellings will focus on a specific year 2 related spelling rule. Spellings will be tested weekly, every Friday morning.

Children will receive 2 hours of physical exercise every week, both inside and outside, please send your child’s full PE kit into school every Monday morning for the week ahead.

In our topic work this term we will be looking closely at life 100 years ago; including school days, toys and playground games. Our Science this term will be ‘all about me/humans’, as part of this, can children please bring one photograph of themselves as a baby for display in the classroom. In History we will be looking at the life of George Stephenson – Father of the Railways. We will be looking at his early life, his inventions and their impact on the world.

We will be setting creative homework tasks this year and this will tie in with our topic.

We look forward to working with your amazing children and seeing all their commitment and determination blossom in their first term in Year 2 at Glynwood.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to speak to any of the Year 2 team.

Thank you

The police visit Key Stage One

The police came to visit Year 1 and 2 children. We found out about their jobs and looked at some parts of their uniform. We got to ask lots of interesting questions and found ways to keep ourselves safe.
