YEAR 2

Mr Routledge and Miss Robinson
YEAR 2

Spring Term 2019

We hope you’ve all had a wonderful Christmas Holiday!

Our Spring term begins with a new topic: In The Night Sky. We will be looking at and learning about the solar system and living things that come out at night.

In English, we start off the term with a whole school writing project with a new book : The Matchbox Diary. We will continue to build our writing skills and will be working hard to improve our spelling, grammar, punctuation and handwriting.

In Maths, we continue with our number work to develop our knowledge on the 4 basic functions and will strive to learn our 2, 5 and 10 times tables off by-heart.

In Science, our new topic is Everyday Materials. We will be using our scientific knowledge to follow and make our own investigations to help us develop a better understanding of the materials we use and that are around us.

We will have two lessons of PE every week. We are fortunate that we have the fantastic opportunity to be coached in Basketball by a Newcastle Eagles player and have another coach coming in to help us in our Multi-skills this term. Please ensure that your child brings their PE kit in on a Monday for the week ahead.

Thank you for your continued support

This week we have been reading The Lighthouses Keeper’s Picnic and to help celebrate our last week in year 2, we decided to have a little picnic with all our friends before we moved onto year 3.   We designed our own menu of items we like to eat (and don’t). We made...

Lighthouse Keeper’s Picnic

As part of our work about the seaside we have been reading The Lighthouse Keeper’s Picnic. We decided as a class to plan and make a picnic, which we invited the other Year 2 class to. We decorated biscuits. We loved watching the pop corn pop! We made jam, ham and...

Y2KR Pirate Day Fun

Pirate day for key stage one

The children in year 1 and 2 have loved our pirate day. We all dressed up as pirates. We made cutlasses, hooks, pirate hats, drew pictures, wrote stories and made boats with pirate flags. We even made olden day treasure maps too. What a great day.

Year 2 love their seaside trip to Tynemouth

The year 2 children had a great time visiting Tynemouth. We started by going onto the beach for a while and some of us got to dip our toes in the water. We then learned so many facts in the Blue Reef Aquarium and loved watching the seal show. A great day out....
