YEAR 1

Miss Bowes and Mr Lyon

Spring Term 2018

Welcome back after a very busy Christmas holiday for all of you I’m sure.

For the first part of the Spring term we will be beginning to expand on the children’s previous learning in English, Maths and foundation subjects. Our topic in English is ‘Stories from other cultures’. We are particularly focusing on the development of reading and writing in English, and working on including capital letters, full stops and finger spaces in all of our written work.

Our topic this half term is France. We will be learning about the similarities and differences between life in France and life in the UK as well as looking at some famous artists! We will also be sending out some creative homework in relation to our topic – more information to follow.

In Science, we are learning about humans. During this topic we will be looking at how we grow up and what happens to us as we get older, as well as exploring the senses!

The children will also be continuing with the Read Write Inc. scheme with most children now having a small phonics sound book to practise at home.

We hope you have had an enjoyable holiday and are ready to start 2018!
