YEAR 1Mrs Allom, Mrs Commons and Mr Lyon
Summer Term 2019
Well the Summer term is upon us already! A big focus for us in Year 1 will be the push towards the Phonics Screening Test, starting on Monday 10th June. In the test the children will be asked to read a list of 40 words, sounding each one out. Remember some will be real words and some will be ‘alien’ or made up words. Any help you can give your child will be beneficial. We have also decided to give a reading list each week, instead of spellings to learn.
In class we will be doing a lot of map work, looking at countries of the UK and capital cities, we might even make our own maps too.
Our Science work will focus on plants and seeds and we hope to get outside and do some planting.
Creative homework tasks will continue for you to work at with your child at home, at your leisure.
Hopefully the sun will shine and give us some opportunities to get outside and enjoy learning outdoors.
Any questions at all, please don’t hesitate to come and see us.

Y2KR had an absolutely fantastic World Book Day sharing stories with both nursery and reception classes. The older children brought a selection of their reading books from class to read to the younger children and afterwards read a selection of books and stories...
A huge well done for all the fantastic costumes today to celebrate World BookDay. A very big thank you to all the grown ups for helping the children look so amazing.
We have had a fabulous afternoon with our grown ups making Eiffel Towers and a few other famous landmarks. Well done everyone and a HUGE thank you to all of those who came along and supported your children to make the fantastic models.
After reading the book "Handa's Surprise", we tasted lots of fruits like mango, pineapple, passion fruit, as well as orange and banana. We liked some of them, though others weren't quite so popular. Well done everyone for trying.
Year 1 had a great time this afternoon making peppermint creams. It is linked to a book we have been doing as a whole school called “the matchbox diaries” and in that story they make these sweets. We had great fun and they were absolutely delicious.
We had a great time in the unexpected snowfall today. We’re glad we got out before it melts!
We had a fantastic party today. We played lots of games, danced and ate party food until we nearly burst. We even got a surprise visit from Santa. What a great afternoon and end to 2018. Merry Christmas to you all.
