YEAR 1Mrs Allom, Mrs Commons and Mr Lyon
Spring Term 2019
A huge welcome back after the holidays. We hope you all had a wonderful Christmas.
Here are just a few little changes that we are making to the Year 1 curriculum.
We will soon be starting to give out weekly spellings. A short list will be sent out on a Friday for a ‘test’ the following Friday. We try to learn an easy pattern linked to the spellings.
We are also going to introduce ‘homework’. This will be based on a ‘Creative Curriculum’ rather than formal sheets every week. Children will be given a topic idea each half term and then lots of ideas of things you might like to do over a number of weeks. This half term it will be based on ‘France’. At a given date, we will gather in all of the exciting things that have been done and share them with parents and carers.
We will also start hosting ‘Family Friday’ sessions now and again. This is where adults are invited in on a Friday afternoon to join in with activities in the class. It is always great fun and often just a little bit messy! Get your creative heads thinking!
Look out for extra information and dates coming about the various things we’ve got coming up.
Please bring in your reading folders on your reading days as some are forgetting regularly. We will also be handing out a Read Write Inc Set 2 and 3 sounds yellow book, which you can practise at home, which will support your child in their Phonics Screening Test in June.
Sorry this seems like a huge amount of information. Please don’t hesitate to come and see us if there is anything you are unsure about.
Year 1 enjoyed even more PE this week with a Judo taster session. We had great fun. 14B85054-A67E-4DEA-809B-97F3013123FC

We have enjoyed dressing in red and non uniform to raise money for charity.
The year 1 children have enjoyed playing golf with a professional. Well done everyone. Enjoy golf
Bonjour! We had a super fun day this week dressed all in French colours, red, white and blue. We tasted brioche, cheese and croissants. Yum yum delicious.
Y2KR had an absolutely fantastic World Book Day sharing stories with both nursery and reception classes. The older children brought a selection of their reading books from class to read to the younger children and afterwards read a selection of books and stories...
A huge well done for all the fantastic costumes today to celebrate World BookDay. A very big thank you to all the grown ups for helping the children look so amazing.
We have had a fabulous afternoon with our grown ups making Eiffel Towers and a few other famous landmarks. Well done everyone and a HUGE thank you to all of those who came along and supported your children to make the fantastic models.
After reading the book "Handa's Surprise", we tasted lots of fruits like mango, pineapple, passion fruit, as well as orange and banana. We liked some of them, though others weren't quite so popular. Well done everyone for trying.
Year 1 had a great time this afternoon making peppermint creams. It is linked to a book we have been doing as a whole school called “the matchbox diaries” and in that story they make these sweets. We had great fun and they were absolutely delicious.
We had a great time in the unexpected snowfall today. We’re glad we got out before it melts!
We had a fantastic party today. We played lots of games, danced and ate party food until we nearly burst. We even got a surprise visit from Santa. What a great afternoon and end to 2018. Merry Christmas to you all.
