SAM_1474Sporting success and near misses!    This term has been a busy one for Glynwood sports teams and we have performed extremely well in the competitions attended since Christmas. The netball team won through local and Gateshead wide competitions to play against the best of Tyne and Wear where they ended up a creditable 7th. The basketball teams in year 5 managed to qualify for the Gateshead finals and played each other in a tense final match that ended up being won on a penalty shoot out with Shaun Huddart scoring the winning basket! The year 6 teams faired just as well and won their local hoops for health tournament for the 4th year in a row, but were narrowly beaten in the final held at Sports Central (home of the Eagles) by Barley Mow and had to settle for the second best team in Gateshead this year. One of our Boccia teams won through to the regional finals to be played 17th April at Biddick sports centre in Washington – so good luck girls! The Tag rugby and Cross country events scheduled for this half-term were cancelled due to bad weather, so will be attended by our successful qualifying teams later in the summer term – good luck to the tag rugby team especially who will be representing Gateshead for the first time in Glynwood history! The football 5 a side team took part in a competition at Gateshead leisure centre and narrowly missed out on qualifying for the finals coming 3rd in their group – hard luck boys! Watch this space for more sporting updates as soon as the arrive in the summer term!
